Why do 99.6% of all Amazon Authors Fail to Earn a Livable Income?

Because they just keep doing what they've “always been told”, thinking that is the only way you “make money” writing and selling books. Conventional Wisdom keeps earnest authors down and out.

But the secret is solving this problem is hidden in plain sight.

A handful of authors found this out years ago. And as soon as you hear about it, you'll probably roll your eyes and turn away. Just too simple - or too radical to work.

There are two mindsets you have to change:

1) You have to realize that your writing-publishing-marketing scene is an actual business. Using entrepreneurial tools like strategic planning and metrics will then enable you to run and expand your business.

2) You have to start connecting intimately with your fans every single time someone buys your book. Having anonymous buyers keeps you poor – because you don't have a relationship, and can't repeat that purchasing cycle. Again – that's a usual business basic.

That secret hidden in plain sight? It's controversial: Build your business backend as if Amazon didn't exist. Forget all that data.

Publish and promote all your new releases as a special edition – to first earn your main income from your fans. Then only after that publish a conventional book – in all its versions – through the regular book distributors, to add more subscribers. Don't count on the main distributors to earn your income - count on your fans.

The bottom line of this success route: Start making every purchaser, from every release, give you their email address. Then you are building your fan base and can promote each and every book to them. In this way, you can control and expand your income directly – as a Writerpreneur.

My research in this has been ongoing for over 18 years. I've written 22 books on self-publishing alone. Recently, I decided to update these – and pull the evergreen principles (always work, never change) to examine what I've seen and again, tell the world what is actually working out there. And maybe discover something in the process.

I found big, gaping holes. The patterns in use didn't work, if they ever did. There was never anything such as "organic discovery". Authors had become wage slaves without the security of benefits. And those wages were already mere pittances for the vast majority of them.

The “system” was and is broken.
