New Calves - that time of the year...

All darling. ten now, here's number two:

A heifer (female). Yes, we have nine more - at this writing, it's five heifers and five bull calves. And I'll feature each of them week by week until you've met them all.

I get to be a proud "god-father" around 20 times each year, and am rightfully proud of them.

If your namerator has a great inspired idea for this girl, just let me know...

Tiny Home Progress

The new screen door is such a blessing. I was going with one of these "As Seen on TV" magnet-and-velcro deals - but was quickly informed (by several people) that those things never worked and are intensely disliked by those who tried them. So we looked up a lumber yard and found out they had them to match our current door. Once we installed it, then regulating the temperature inside is so much easier. That door is 36" wide, so the air changes rapidly.

The garden preps and necessary cattle work will take this next week. Maybe the following week, we can get the cottage down to it's (first) resting place, and the next trailer brought up for working.

This week will push the temps up into the 80's, so it's time to bring out our portable A/C and tweak it...

Need Your Feedback

Most of you have been opening these emails for years by now. And you're soooo appreciated. Frankly, I've been letting this list weed itself down to the core group who have always liked this style of my writing. So I can talk to just you.

I've been wrestling with a problem for some time. I just have too much stuff to offer, and so there's no way to effectively market any of it. That massive amount of books and whatnot is actually keeping me from expanding what I do beyond a one-person self-publishing setup.

The mission narrows to "helping people mine their hard-won experience to grow and harvest additional income sources through book publishing."

And this incorporates the bulk of what I've been working with, and publishing, into a single core approach that I can focus on.

The name? "Book Farming"

Because there are crops you can plant once and then harvest year after year, almost indefinitely. That fits the non-fiction book, which can maintain regular sales for a half-century. It's a nice metaphor - and my background here gives me plenty of anecdotes to use along that line.

Fiction authors have it a bit tougher, since their works are forgotten more easily - and they generally have to produce a new book every 90 days. But, there are successful fiction authors out there. (In that metaphor, consider that they keep planting and harvesting over and over through the year - and do get known for their consistent quality of produce.)

As well, this work tends to bring out the pragmatic farmer in me. Things work or they don't. And opinions are worth the paper they are written on.

All the courses and whatnot I've already produced will fit under this, each in their own folders inside that area. Instead of a half-dozen libraries and projects, just one.

I just wanted to run it by you first. So - just reply to this email and tell me what you think.

Building a book for friends

I've volunteered my editing expertise to help build a compiled book. The project is an outgrowth of Creator Economy Expo, which was successfully concluded this week. It's being built from submitted chapters by a little network of CEX attendees. It's a huge project, the biggest one I've ever been involved with.

For the next couple of months, this book is going to fill the cracks in my otherwise "copious free time". So it's trying to grow into a bit of a time crunch now.

More on this later, for sure.

Publishing Plans

The reason I've dived into the Pulizzi/CEX scene (on top of everything else) is to take my little remunerative publishing hobby and scale it up to something that helps people on a much larger scale. As you know, I've got tons of stuff I've produced over the years, but I'm dissatisfied with the resulting income. So, admitting that it's a profitable hobby is the first step.

There are four areas of interest and research for me, and since there are flagship books in each area that cover my expenses (like building my tiny homes) these four areas will be build out into more cohesive service-areas for books and courses.

So, along with digesting all the great presentations from two years of CEX, I'm going to go back through all the courses I've aggregated over the years and see what really works out of these - there should be commonalities/principles/patterns that keeps showing up as successful.

For the fiction, and other prior-published works, I've moved my ebooks to Smashwords ( https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/Living_Sensical_Press/) and will be shutting down the fiction ebooks on this site. On Smashwords, I'll be sending you discount coupons - and don't worry, I've got far too much stuff on my lines to do this with any speed. These are the broad strokes of how to focus down to just a single approach to things. (More than likely, it will be a substantial discount over at Smashwords...)
